Botulinum Toxin (Botox) is a chemical produced by the Botulinum bacteria. It is a purified protein derivative of the toxin, acting as a muscle relaxant. Wrinkle relaxing injections work by injecting a small amount of Botox into the facial muscles which cause facial lines, acting as a muscle relaxant and blocking the nerve transmission to the injected muscle. This reduces the activity to the muscle, relaxing the lines and preventing them from forming - resulting in softening of the expression lines in the treated areas.

The treatment usually takes 4-14 days to take effect, and lasts up to 3 months Although the response to Botox differs from individual to individual, it is generally found that after the first year of regular treatments, ongoing treatments last for up to six months and less Botox may be required. However, if you decide to discontinue your treatment you will gradually return to a pre-treatment state and the visual effects of natural ageing will continue.
